SA PRESIDENTIAL RUN-OFF
The votes have been counted. Campaign signs have been taken down. Winners have celebrated and losers have tried to move on. Yet, nearly two weeks after the SA 2009-2010 elections, it remains unclear as to who will serve as the presidential head of GW's next student government. Kyle Boyer, the campaign frontrunner, found himself two votes short of victory on February 27. Now, it appears that he won't be given a second chance. Amid allegations of overspending and other infractions, Boyer will appear before the Joint Elections Committee on March 11, where it will be decided whether or not he will be allowed to participate in the presidential runoff election scheduled to take place after spring break.
Originally scheduled for March 11 and 12, the presidential runoff was postponed by an SA Senate vote on March 10. SA Sen. Steve Glatter (Law) introduced the bill, which also changed the JEC charter by removing a provision specifying that if a runoff election candidate is disqualified less than 24 hours before the start of the election, then the other candidate would be declared the winner. Now, the candidate receiving the next-most votes would be promoted to the runoff. That candidate is Nick Polk, who originally placed third with slightly more than 16% of the vote.
With much more to be decided in the next few days, it is certain that whoever makes it to the top spot in GW's student government has a full plate waiting for them on the table.
